9K33 Osa | 9K33 Osa-AK | 9K33 Osa-AKM |
The 9K33 Osa-AK is an anti-aircraft missile for the Soviet Union, it is an upgrade for the 9K33 Osa and was first introduced in Wargame: European Escalation
History[]
The 9K33M2 Osa-AK was an improved version of the Osa self-propelled Anti-Aircraft system, which entered service in 1975. Compared with its predecessor, the most notable modification is the replacement of open missile racks with six enclosed box launchers, providing protection to the weapons from the environment. Improved missiles and electronics allowed the system to engage more maneuverable targets at lower altitudes.
These were used in the Divisional Air defense batteries.
Overview[]
European Escalation[]
Equipped with two additional missiles compared with the baseline Osa, the AK variant is still effectively unsuitable for combat, owing to the low accuracy of its missiles.
AirLand Battle[]
In Wargame: AirLand Battle, the Osa-AK is a highly cost-effective air defense system, although hobbled by a somewhat short range for a radar guided SAM. Possessing a very high accuracy, and capable of destroying most aircraft in two hits, it is nonetheless inexpensive enough to be deployed widely and unlike more expensive units, losses to artillery or SEAD are generally inconsequential.
Due to its early introduction, the Osa-AK is available on Category C decks, allowing for this effective system to be used en-masse in support of low-tech armies.
As with all radar guided weapons, the Osa-AK is highly vulnerable to SEAD aircraft. This is exacerbated by the relatively modest range of this unit, which often allows enemy SEAD to snipe individual Osa-AKs without fear of retaliation.
