A-4K Skyhawk | A-4K Kahu |
The A-4K Skyhawk is a ground attack aircraft for the ANZAC that was first introduced in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was developed in the early 1950's as a carrier-based light attack platform. It is a subsonic single-engine, single-seat multi-role combat aircraft and saw extensive use in the Vietnam War. The A-4K was the first variant first sold to the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1970. Fourteen of the type were delivered that year, and the A-4Ks would later be upgraded to the KAHU configuration in the 1980's.
Two Royal New Zealand Air Force squadrons were equipped with A-4K No. 2 Squadron and No. 75 Squadron.
Overview[]
The A-4K Skyhawk is a Ground Attack Aircraft available to ANZAC and BLUFOR decks. It is an 85 point light strike platform armed with two fire and forget AGM-65B Maverick missiles and twin Colt Mk. 12 20mm cannons. The A-4K is a cost-effective spot-removal platform capable of attacking and destroying even top of the line REDFOR tanks thanks to its accurate, powerful Maverick missiles. Its Mk. 12 cannons allow the A-4K to strafe ground targets, harass helicopters, and provides minor protection against enemy aircraft at close range.
The major drawbacks of the A-4K are its lack of any aerial missile compliment and lack of ECM. This leaves the A-4K highly vulnerable to long range SAMs and enemy fighters. A fighter or SEAD escort is highly recommended when sending the A-4K to strike targets over enemy territory or if enemy fighters are anticipated.
