The BMD-3 is an airborne infantry fighting vehicle that appears Wargame: Red Dragon for the Soviet Union.

History[]

The BMD-3 is a Soviet airborne infantry fighting vehicle, introduced in 1990 just shortly before the fall of Soviet Union. Despite of its similar name being a series of Airbourne IFVs, It is not an upgraded BMD-1 but a completely redesigned vehicle with a hydropneumatic suspension, new hull, a more powerful 2V-06-2 diesel engine and fitted with the complete turret of the BMP-2.

Ingame[]

The BMD-3 is very similar to BMD-2; or rather the BMD-2 Obr. 1986. Unlike the BMP-3 which steps up the firepower from BMP-2 with a massive 100mm HE main gun which is a death for infantry, the BMD-3's firepower is only marginally increased from BMD-2, with only an increase of accuracy, stabilisation, and rate of fire of the main gun as well as a better ATGM. Make no mistake however, its improved frontal and side armour allows it to survive longer. and the autocannon can deal a lot of hurt on helicopters like the BMD-2

Unfortunately, the upgraded armour makes it slower by 5km/h when off-road or amphibious. However this slight loss of mobility should not be a major problem. Just use it as one would do with a BMD-2 albeit slightly slower and it should do fine
