BMP-1K was the command variant of the BMP-1 first developed in 1972. The troop area was redesigned to carry field tables and map boards along with radios for the officers riding in the vehicle. BMP-1K1 was the platoon command vehicle carrying two R-123M radios. BMP-1K2 was the company command vehicle carrying two R-123M radios. BMP-1K3 was the battalion command vehicle with one R-123M and one R-130M radio.
