BMP-1 | BMP-1 Obr. 1970 | BMP-1P | BMP-1D |
Available to PACT forces, the BMP-1 Obr. 1970 is the second option of the BMP-1 series. This vehicle has only appeared in Wargame: European Escalation.
History[]
The "Obr. 1970" is probably a mistook of the NATO designation "M1970", while this vehicle should in fact be BMP-1 Obr. 1969, aka Object 765 Sp2. The Sp2 model was produced from 1969 until 1973, while the Mlayutka-P ATGM was also introduced in 1969. However, this would mean that the Soviet standard BMP-1 in-game is actually an early type that was produced from 1966 to 1969. This is likely the reason why USSR lost the "Obr. 1970" in the other 2 installments, for in Red Dragon, the Year of the standard BMP-1 was marked as 1973, representing the Sp3 model.
Compared to its predecessor, Sp2 is considered a standard production model with many improvements in ergonomics. In terms of affecting combat effectiveness, the Sp2 was equipped with a stabilization system for its 73 mm main gun, a semi-automatic guidance for the 9S428 ATGM launcher, an improved NBC system, a more powerful engine, an improved automatic loader and improved night vision devices.[1]
Overview[]
Improved ATGM and main gun Accuracy compared with the vanilla BMP-1, those are all the difference. It is not very worthy of costing 10 more points to deploy. Require 1 Command star in total to unlock.
Although USSR was unable to deploy this vehicle anymore in AirLand Battle and Red Dragon, its East German counterpart, SPz BMP-1 SP-2, will remain available.
