Available to Warsaw Pact, the BRDM-2 is a Soviet armored recon vehicle that was first introduced in Wargame: European Escalation.

History[]

BRDM-1 had no NBC protection, turret and night vision equipment. BRDM-2 was designed to correct these issues.

BRDM-2 replaced BRDM-1 starting in 1965. BRDM-2 was used in the reconnaissance assault company of the divisional Reconnaissance Battalion along with some used in the wheeled reconnaissance platoon reconnaissance company of the Tank and Motor Rifle regiment. The Divisional Engineer battalion has a platoon mounted in BRDM-2. The BRDM-2 was fitted with belly wheels to help it in crossing trenches and has been modified for several uses. When Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev died, a BRDM-2 was used to carry his coffin during the funeral ceremony in Red Square.

The BRDM-2 has also seen modifications to carry ATGMs, stripping it away from it's KPVT machine gun turret. These include the 9P122 carrying Malyutka-M ATGMs, 9P133 carrying Malyutka-P ATGMs, 9P124 carrying Fletya ATGMs, and 9P148 carrying the Konkurs ATGM. One variant is also turned into a command unit with the BRDM-2U, still with it's turret stripped away for more radios with an upper hull for more radios.

Currently, the BRDM-2 is used by over 57 countries, with most of them being Post-Soviet Republics, Eastern European countries and countries in Africa, and has seen a plethora of usage in different conflicts. 2 BRDM-2s were sold to Grenada and captured by the US during the Invasion of Grenada and one being destroyed. Many BRDM-2s were used by the Communist Afghan and Soviet forces during the Afghan Conflict, and now being used by the Afghan Taliban. Iraq used BRDM-2s for both Gulf Wars. The Angolan MPLA was supplied with a handful of BRDM-2s after Angolan independence, but one was captured by a UNITA manned Panhard AML during the Angolan Civil War. BRDM-2s were even used by Yugoslavia during the Ten-Days War, Croatian War of Independence and during the Kosovo War, while Polish, Ukrainian and Russian security forces used BRDM-2s during the KFOR operations. Sudan used several BRDM-2s during the Nile and South Kordofan Conflicts, and Russia and Ukraine using BRDM-2s during the recent Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

A good, cheap scout car that lacks offensive capability. Players should not use it on unspecialized decks because there are better options.
