Available to Warsaw Pact forces, the BRM-1K is a Soviet Command Armor when it was first introduced in Wargame: European Escalation. The BRM-1K was rerolled into Armored Recon in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
BRM stands for Boevaya Razvedyvatel’naya Mashina, Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle.
Originally designed as a reconnaissance vehicle, the BRM-1K was an improved command variant of the BRM-1 which was developed simultaneously with it. The biggest difference between BRM-1 and the original BMP-1 is the introduction of a new two-men turret.
The K model has all the equipment and fittings of the BRM-1 plus a few new ones including a PSNR-5K (TALL MIKE) Battlefield Surveillance Radar, DKRM-1 laser rangefinder, ARRS-1 location device, IMP mine detector and 1PN33B night binoculars. It is fitted with a mast antenna and late production models have six 81 mm 902V "Tucha" smoke grenade launchers (three on each side), also equipped with 50 mm flares which are used for battlefield illumination. This vehicle is still being used and improved to this day.
The vehicle served in the Command elements of the Regimental reconnaissance company along with divisional reconnaissance battalion. The BRM-1K was also exported to Poland and CSSR in small quantities.
Overview[]
Surprisingly for ground vehicles, the BRM-1K has a Exceptional-level Optics, and slightly better Medium Stealth compared to the original BMP-1. However, this is all the reason why it can cost 50 points. The armament of BRM-1K is even worse than the 15-point BMP-1 for the lack of ATGM, and there is no difference in the stats of the main gun.
This means that in many cases, the BRM-1K can only serve as a pure reconnaissance unit, and cannot have the good Search and Destroy capabilities like the AH-64D Longbow or M-84AN. From this perspective, the use of BRM-1K has significant limitations, as the field of view and maneuverability of ground vehicles are generally inferior to those of helicopters.
