The BTR-60 is an eight-wheeled Soviet APC developed in the late 50's
Overview[]
The most basic APC avaliable, the BTR-60 is a cheap way of getting your soldiers from A to B. In European Escalation, the BTR-60PAI is the basic version of APC, with BTR-60PB being the upgrade. In Airland Battle and Red Dragon, BTR-60PB is the basic version, and BTR-60PAI is absent.
The 2 versions differ only in armament. BTR-60PB mounts a HMG, more useful against helicopters.
As with other cheap APCs, these should not be relied on anything except transporting your troops. They can (and will) be destroyed by concentrated small-arms fire. The mounted MG is not very accurate and will struggle to make many kills. The covering fire can be useful in scaring off helicopters or suppressing enemy infantry.
History[]
After BTR-152 and BTR-40's shortcoming in Hungarian Revolution and in Egyptian Army service during the Suez Crisis another APC was created. This became BTR-60 which entered service in 1960. BTR-60PB which started production in 1966 has improved sighting system, GAZ-49B engine and additional armor along with a NBC system. These were replaced by BTR-70 starting in 1972 and BTR-80 in 1984.
These were used in Two BTR equipped Motor Rifle Regiment which served in the Motor Rifle Division.
