BTR-80 | BTR-80A |
The BTR-80A is an eight-wheeled Soviet APC developed in the late 80s. Treated as a prototype unit in the game.
History[]
The main gun of the BTR-80 remained a HMG, however, due to the low efficiency of machine gun fire against modern lightly armored targets, an improved version of the vehicle with a 30mm 2A72 autocannon in a new turret designated BPPU appeared in 1993, the model will be known as BTR-80A. They entered production in 1994. Vehicles of the BTR-80 family took part in all major armed conflicts in the territory of the former USSR and a number of other countries.
Overview[]
The BTR-80A swaps out the HMG for a very accurate and stabilised cannon. Unlike most other Soviet transports, it lacks ATGM weapons, instead focusing on gun performance. With an accuracy on the move similar to what most other cannon armed APCs can only achieve stationary, it can efficiently take on infantry, helicopters and light APCs.
BTR-80A has a very small availability as a prototype and is limited to one card. In addition, the types of troops that BTR-80A can carry are also limited. From this perspective, it's better to choose the more expensive but also better performing BTR-90.
