F-104 Starfighter | CF-104 Starfighter |
The CF-104 is an air superiority fighter available to Denmark and BLUFOR decks in the upcoming Red Dragon DLC #3.
History[]
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a single-engine, single-seat, T-Tail supersonic fighter. It was the first fighter to use the General Electric M61A1 Gatling-style Vulcan Cannon. First flown 4 March 1954 and introduced to American arsenals in 1958, the Starfighter was highly exported to NATO nations. The F-104G was manufactured under license by several nations including Canadair, Messerschmitt, Dornier, Fiat, Fokker, and SABCA. It featured a strengthened fuselage, wing structure, landing gear, increased internal fuel capacity, a larger ventral fin, and revised flaps for better maneuverability.
In Danish service, the F-104 Starfighter was bought from the United States as part of the Mutual Defense Act. Initially purchasing F-104G's, Denmark also purchased 15 ex-RCAF CF-104 and 7 CF-104Ds from Canada in 1971. These were updated to a F-104G / CF-104G standard in Denmark. CF-104 were used to reinforce the two Starfighter squadrons of Royal Danish Air Force Eskadrille 726 and Eskadrille 723.
Overview[]
Red Dragon[]
The Danish CF-104 in Wargame: Red Dragon is an inexpensive air superiority fighter available to Danish and BLUFOR decks. It carries four AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles and an internal 20mm cannon. The CF-104 Starfighter is best used for helicopter hunting, or as an inexpensive air superiority fighter, however in the latter role, it will generally be outranged by even moderate-priced REDFOR fighters. The type also has no ECM, leaving it vulnerable to enemy IADS.
