The Carver is a prototype Air Superiority Fighter that appears in Wargame Red Dragon as part of the South African DLC.
History[]
Carver was a planned fourth-generation fighter aircraft. Due to the escalation of the border war and lost of air superiority to People's Armed Forces of Liberation of Angola and Cuban forces, South Africa needed a modern fighter but could not get foreign designs and support due to the Embargo. So SAAF, Armscor subsidiary Atlas Aircraft Corporation and the National Research Laboratory had to develop in house with assistance from foreign France and Israeli engineers who came from the IAI Lavi project. These were intended to replace Mirage III fighters, Blackburn Buccaneer, Canberra bombers, and the Mirage F1. Due to the Angolan Tripartite Accord and the end of the Border War which brought SADF budget cuts, Carver was canceled with the end of Arms embargo allowed foreign aircraft purchase.
