The Challenger Marksman is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun that was introduced for the United Kingdom in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

Marksman is a British anti-aircraft weapon system, consisting of a turret, a Marconi Series 400 radar and two Swiss 35 mm Oerlikon autocannons. This system is smiliar to the German Gepard. These could be mounted in Centurion, Chieftain and Challenger 1 tanks.

Only past user of the Marksman System is  Finnish Army which ordered 7 units in 1990.

Overview[]

In-game the Challenger Marksman is a support unit for the United Kingdom. It's a prototype and therefore limited to UK and Commonwealth Decks only. For 70 points you get a vehicle that is relatively fast, but also has an incredible 15 Front Armour. This armour means that the Challenger marksman can take some of the low AP SEAD missile models (most Blufor SEAD as well as East-German Su-22M4P and Polish Su-22M4P assuming that only 1 of the missile hit the vehicle) hits and survive, as well as howtizer shells and at least one hit from any tanks. These make the vehicle especially viable for newer players who often forget to turn off their radar AA when SEAD is in the air, it also means that this vehicle can be safely placed close to front line troops, making it particularly effective at stunning planes and preventing it from dropping bombs to be finished off by SAM platforms further behind the front line.
