The Chasseurs is the main line infantry used by France in the Wargame series, they were first introduced in Wargame: European Escalation.
History[]
Born in 1473, Chasseurs are light infantry who are trusted with fighting in and clearing ground on untrusted or uneven terrain, for example: jungles, mountains, hills, urban areas. They are lightly armed, unlike regular French basic infantry, so they can easily maneuver on the uneven terrain, and scout ahead, as well as supporting Volteguiers in rangery. As time passed, Chasseur cavalry, and line infantry regiments were made, eventually Guards Chasseur units started being formed.
Chasseurs have many similarities to the German "Jäger", the same can be said about them in Napoleonic times, as both units specialized in skirmishing and rangery.
In the modern world, the Chasseurs are used as lightly armed infantrymen, trained to fight in rugged terrain that doesn't favor armored or heavy infantry formations. They scout and secure untrustworthy terrain, just like Jagers in modern times.
French army has various infantry organizations. The old mechanized infantry regiment has two AMX-13 VTT mounted companies along with two AMX-13/90 companies. 30ème groupe de Chasseurs kept their AMX-13 VTT with the original AMX-13 VTT formation changed to three AMX-13 VTT mounted infantry companies along with a light tank company of AMX-13/90. Division Blindee has two Mechanized Infantry Regiment with three AMX-10P companies and a Mixed Infantry Regiment with two VAB mounted companies and a truck mounted company of reservist. Division Blindee Legere has two VAB mounted infantry regiments. Division d'Infanterie has three VAB mounted infantry regiments. 11th Airborne Division has 6 airborne regiments while the 4th Airmobile has one Airmobile Infantry Regiment. 27th alpine division has 6 mountain infantry regiments.
Overview[]
European Escalation[]
The regular Chasseurs are armed with the MAS 49/56 semi-automatic battle rifle, costing only 5 points less than the Chasseurs FAMAS while having significantly less ammunition, worse accuracy and low rate of fire. Compared to Riflemen of the same level, Chasseurs' MAS 49/56 only has 1 higher Accuracy (7 vs. 6), but seriously lagging behind in terms of RoF (21 vs. 728) and Ammo (120 vs. 2040). Their LAW, the SARPAC, has also 1 lower Accuracy than M72.
Despite considered as a variant, unlocking Chasseurs FAMAS do not require the player to unlock Chasseurs first.
Chasseurs armed with the FAMAS are low in availability (20 units), but they are very cheap, are armed very well, the FAMAS they use has the most fire rate for an assault rifle in the entire game even though the calibre is weak, they also have very good LAW anti-tank weapons, they also have very fast transports, like the VAB. Like other French units, you should focus on ambushing with these units, and meeting infantry threats quickly using the incredibly fast transports.
