Eland 90 is a South African Armored Recon that appears in Wargame Red Dragon as part of the South African DLC.
History[]
The Eland 90 was originally built to replace the Daimler Ferret, which was beginning to show its age by the 60s. In 1961, South Africa purchased 100 French Panhard AMLs as a starter. After studying the vehicle and it's designs, the South African Government began a construction of their versions of the AMLs, which became the Eland Armored Car. Panhard approved of the license of construction of the cars by the mid-60s. By 1985, 200 Elands a year were produced by South Africa. Eland-90 was modeled on Panhard's AML H-90 equipped with a Denel GT-2 90mm gun. These armored cars served in the Armored Car regiments of the South African Defense Force. The Mechanized Battalion Group has a Armored Car squadron originally Eland.
The Eland had seen use in mainly African based conflicts, serving as a long-range reconnaissance car. It was used extensively by the South African Defense Force during the Angolan Civil War, used by Rhodesia in the Rhodesian Bush War, and by Morocco in the Western Sahara War, with some captured. It also saw action in the Second Congo War, used by Uganda, and used by Chad and Burkina Faso in a war against ISL activity in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Eland is currently operated by Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Gabon, Cote d'Ivoire, (Ivory Coast), Malawi, Morocco, Sahrawi, Senegal, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
