The F-111F Aardvark is a ground attack aircraft for the United States that first appeared in Wargame: AirLand Battle.
History[]
The General Dynamics F-111F Aardvark is the final development of the F-111 series for the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command (TAC). It is a twin-engine, two-seat, swing-wing bomber produced starting in 1970. The F-111F utilizes the Mark IIB avionics suite, comprised of a simplified version of the FB-111A's radar, and the F-111E's stores management system. It is equipped with the more powerful TF-30P-100 afterburning turbofan engines, which generate more than 25,000 pounds of thrust in afterburner per engine; a significant improvement over the P-3 powered F-111A. In the 1980's, the F-111F received the AN/AVQ-26 PAVE TACK FLIR/Laser pod for enhanced targeting at night or in bad weather, and which allowed target designation for laser-guided bombs.
These were used by 48th Tactical Fighter Wing between 1977–1992 and 366th Tactical Fighter Wing between 1971–1977 and 27th Tactical Fighter Wing between 1992–1995.

AirLand Battle[]
The F-111F is a Ground Attack Aircraft equipped with twelve Mk.20 Rockeye II High-Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) cluster bombs. This loadout allows the F-111F to strike armored columns with high effectiveness, especially in a city or clumped in cover. The F-111F features Medium ECM and good top speed, giving the type some resilience against enemy Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS), as it does not need to spend excessive time in their coverage. The major drawbacks of the F-111F are its relatively high cost (120 points per aircraft), and lack of any aerial defensive armament. A fighter escort is highly advisable if enemy aircraft are anticipated to be in the area.
Red Dragon[]
The F-111F in Wargame: Red Dragon is left almost completely untouched compared to its AirLand Battle iteration. It carries slightly improved ECM (30%), twelve Mk.20 Rockeye II HEAT cluster bombs, and costs the same 120 points per aircraft. The Mk.20 Rockeye II has seen an improvement to its AP power from 4 to 6. Although the F-111F's ECM has seen a small bump up, the aircraft is vulnerable to the better SAM and AAM technology available to REDFOR nations in Red Dragon.
