F-15A Eagle | F-15C Eagle | F-15E Strike Eagle |
The F-15C Eagle is an air superiority fighter for the United States that first appeared in Wargame: AirLand Battle.
History[]
The McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle is an upgraded model of the Eagle based upon the F-15A, and was initially delivered to the United States Air Force starting in June 1979. It features increased internal fuel capacity, a re-programmable signal processor for its APG-63 radar, avionics and electronic warfare improvements, FAST pack compatibility, and new F100-P-200 turbofan engines. Starting in 1985, the F-15C began receiving the new APG-70 radar, which added synthetic-aperture ground mapping and track-while-scan ability. The in-game version of the F-15C is likely a representation of the post-1985 upgrade variant, and is available from 1987.
These were used in F-15 Fighters Squadrons in the USAF replacing F-15A.
Overview[]
AirLand Battle[]
The F-15C Eagle is an excellent Air Superiority Fighter, improving on the already solid F-15A airframe. One of the most significant improvements is that the F-15C carries the AIM-120 AMRAAM fire and forget medium range missile. This missile allows the F-15C to shoot at, and then break away from an enemy fighter, so as not to put itself in danger, especially if its target is only equipped with close-range missiles. The AIM-120 is also more accurate than the semi-active AIM-7M carried by the F-15A. For close-range fighting, the F-15C carries the AIM-9M, which is more accurate and powerful than the AIM-9L, and a 20mm Vulcan cannon rounds off its weapon compliment.
The F-15C also features improved ECM compared to the F-15A, making it more survivable if it is engaged by opposing long-range radar-guided AAMs and SAMs. There are two drawbacks to the F-15C, the first of which is cost. At 170 points per F-15C, it is an expensive fighter, whose loss gives considerable points to the opponent, and which can be overwhelmed by larger numbers of inexpensive adversary aircraft. Second, the F-15C is considered a prototype in-game, and is only available to American decks and leaving it unavailable for a mixed-nation build.
Red Dragon[]
The F-15C Eagle is left largely unchanged for Wargame: Red Dragon. It carries the same armament, time over target, strength, and speed. It costs the exact same per aircraft to deploy as it did in Wargame: AirLand Battle, and therefore has the same strengths and weaknesses in Red Dragon as it did in the former title. There are three changes to the type: the first of which being that the F-15C is no longer a prototype in Red Dragon, and is available to NATO decks as well as American decks. The second is the AIM-9M Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM ranges have been slightly enhanced; the AMRAAM is now equal-ranged to the Soviet/REDFOR R-77 Vympel. Finally, the F-15C's ECM has received a bump up to an exceptional 50%.
