F-4F Phantom | F-4F ICE | F-4F Peace Rhine |
The F-4F Peace Rhine is a Multirole Combat Aircraft available to West German and NATO decks. It first appeared in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
The McDonnell Douglas F-4F Phantom II is a twin-engine, two-seat multi-role combat aircraft first purchased by the West German Luftwaffe in 1973 under the "Peace Rhine" program. Prior to this, the Luftwaffe had purchased a reconnaissance version of the F-4, the RF-4E, in 1969. The F-4F was a lightened and simplified version of the F-4E, with no Sparrow compatibility and no seventh fuel cell.
During the delivery of F-4F, Luftwaffe realized that F-4F need upgrades. These included mid-air refueling receptacle, capability for guided weapons, the ability for AIM-9L, and defensive countermeasures like AN/ALQ-131 jammer pod and chaff-flare dispensers.

Red Dragon[]
The F-4F Peace Rhine largely takes over the role of the Tornado IDS from Wargame: AirLand Battle. It is less expensive than the IDS, at 120 points per aircraft, carries medium ECM (20%), two highly accurate fire and forget AGM-65D Maverick missiles, four AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles and an internal 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon. The type is ideal for vehicle spot removal or striking top of the line PACT tanks with its AGM-65s. With an AP value of 26, even the heaviest tank armor cannot withstand a direct hit. The AGM-65D's high accuracy makes it even more deadly. The four AIM-9L's and 20mm Vulcan cannon allow the F-4F Peace Rhine to effectively attack enemy helicopters, or to defend itself against enemy fighters at close range.
The major drawbacks of the F-4F PR are its ECM and small AGM compliment. While the F-4F PR can defend itself against enemy fighters at close range, it is vulnerable to SAMs and AAMs at longer ranges, as its ECM is not particularly strong. While the Tornado IDS carried four AGM-65D's in AirLand Battle, the F-4F Peace Rhine carries only two. Although the missiles are powerful and accurate, the aircraft will have to evac more often to reload.
