FRR Roland 3 is a West German SAM Vehicle that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

Roland 3 had a longer range and faster then their Roland 2 counterparts and a bigger warhead. This entered West German service in 1988. This were shelter mounted on a shelter MAN 8×8 trucks for German Navy and Air force to defend their bases.

Overview[]

The FRR Roland 3 is one of only two radar-based AA units that can be used in an airborne deck (the other being the Norwegian NASAMS), making it a very important asset to West German, Eurocorps, and BLUFOR airborne decks.

This unit is also exceptionally mobile for an anti-air unit, and can keep pace with motorized columns as they advance. Additionally, its relatively large store of missiles makes this unit less supply-intensive, although this can be negated if it is used extensively against groups of helicopters.

While the FRR Roland 3 is intended to be effective against both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, its range against planes is poor for a unit of its class. Unlike longer-ranged SAMs, the FRR Roland 3 probably fail to kill an enemy strike plane before it makes its attack, although the excellent accuracy and speed of the Roland 3 missiles can ensure that the enemy aircraft will not survive its attack run.
