History[]
The F 35 Draken WDNS is a single engine, single seat, supersonic multirole fighter used by the Royal Danish Air Force. In 1968, the Danish government selected a Saab J 35F Drajeb derivative designated the "J 35X" for the Danish Air Force. The J 35X was similar to the J 35F, but had greater fuel capacity and a maximum external warload of 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds). The type was heavily modified to make it into a strike aircraft; compared to the Swedish versions its airframe was reinforced, both in the new outer wing design and the stronger landing gear together with an arrestor hook. The radar was also removed. During the mid-1980's, the Danish F 35XD underwent a modernization (WDNS) which provided the type with a new jammer AN/ALQ-162 podded jammer system, Marconi Series 900 HUD, and Lear-Siegler nav-attack computer, Singer-Kearfott inertial navigation system, and British Ferranti laser rangefinder/marked target seeker.[1]

The F 35 Draken WDNS in Wargame: Red Dragon provides Denmark with a powerful medium strike capability. Carrying six Mk 83 500kg bombs, the WDNS can deal significant damage to lightly armored vehicles, infantry, and even low-flying helicopters. The WDNS's speed and improved ECM increase the type's survivability against enemy IADS. The major drawback of the WDNS is its cost and lack of aerial armament. At 120 points per aircraft, the WDNS isn't cheap, and is vulnerable to enemy fighters. As such, an escort should be considered.
