The Flakpanzer Gepard is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun used by West Germany in the Wargame series, it first appeared in Wargame: European Escalation.
History[]
To replaced M42 in 1966, Bundeswehr had two project ‘Matador’ (designed by Rheinmetall, AEG, Siemens, and Krauss-Maffei) and the ‘5PFZ-A’ (designed by Oerlikon, Contraves, Siemens-Albis, Hollandse Signaalapparaten and Kraus-Maffei/Porsche).5PFZ-A was chosen in 1971 with first entering service in 1973. Gepard was a modified Leopard hull equipped with l 35 mm Oerlikon KDA autocannons using Doppler Radars.
These were used in the Divisional Flak regiment.
Overview[]
European Escalation[]
- At 35 points, the Gepard is quite expensive for a SPAAG, but it's quality will more than make up for it. Even groups of two can be very effective against any air unit.
- Due to the relatively low rate of fire, combined with it's high accuracy, the Gepard can fire for quite a long duration of time.
- It's most important advantage over most SPAAG's is it's range: with a range of 2275 meters, the Gepard can cover a very large area with AA fire. It also means it has much more time to take it's target down.
- The Gepard will have no problems keeping up with any other unit, due to it's good speed of 60 km/h.
- The Gepard has a very decent operational range of 600 km, and a good fuel economy of 0.8 liters per kilometer. Combined with the aforementioned rate of fire and accuracy, the Gepard will place very little strain on your logistics.
