The Formoza is a Polish Special Forces that appears in The Millionth Mile DLC of Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

The JW Formoza is a naval special forces that officially established on January 1, 1976 with the name JW 4026. It is the smallest special forces in the Polish army, with a personnel strength of around 35 to 50 people.

The name "Formoza" can be interestingly associated with China: JW 4026 used an old torpedo testing platform in the city of Gdynia as a base. Due to its isolation in the sea and only a small bridge connecting it to the coast, soldiers likened its relationship with the coast to that of Taiwan and the mainland.[1][2]

The Year 1986 in-game is not unique to Formoza, but perhaps actually refers to the prototype completion date of Pallad-M. This is a grenade launcher that has been developed since 1980 but has not been put into use. The Formoza IRL is unlikely to use this weapon, as it was first made public in 1993.[3]

Overview[]

Although the combination of SMGs and grenade launchers provides Formoza a strong melee unit in theory, it also makes their anti-armor capability even lower than Lì Jiàn '90, while the anti-infantry capability is not likely stronger.

More importantly, Formoza is a special forces unit in the reconnaissance slot. This type of troops themselves are not required to undertake anti-infantry tasks, and their quantity also makes this low cost-effective. However, they are still useful on maps that are narrow and have a lot of street battles (e.g. Wonsan Harbor).

For Eastern Bloc decks, the CSSR Průzkumníci and Specialni Jednotky '90 are more recommended units.
