The Gornostrelki (mountain troops) is a light infantry squad available to the USSR in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
Gornostrelki were either VDV airborne troops, motor rifle troops or Spetsnaz on mountain operations. After World War II, Soviet Union's primary source of mountain infantry came from VDV which were trained in mountain warfare, During the Soviet's Afghanistan War some Motor Rifle formations were trained in mountain warfare. The only unit formed for mountain warfare was 68th independent Motorised Rifle Brigade formed in 6.81 with two BMP-1 battalions and two mounted in GAZ-66.
The 9K115 Metis (NATO reporting name AT-7 Saxhorn) is a man-portable SACLOS wire-guided anti-tank missile developed by the Tula KBP. It is very similar to the AT-4 Spigot in external appearance - having 3 main fins - however, the missile is much lighter - primarily because of the reduced fuel load. This reduced load cuts the maximum range to 1,000 metres (3,300 ft).
The missile was introduced into the Soviet Armed Forces in 1979 to supplement the AT-4 Spigot at company level. The system is lighter than the AT-4 Spigot system, due to a less complicated launcher tripod and a lighter missile.
In Soviet service, the AT-7 is deployed with motor rifle companies, with three launchers per company. The missile is operated by two man teams, with the gunner carrying the 9P151 launching post and one missile, his assistant carries an additional 3 missiles.
Overview[]
The Gornostrelki was designed as Regular Training in-game, while small arms same with the 10-point Motostrelki also result in the same anti-infantry capability. Therefore, as ATGM is the only highlight, it is recommended to use the more modernized Gornostrelki '90.
