History[]

The Republic of Korea Marine Corps was created April 15, 1949. During the South Korea involvement with Vietnam War, 2nd Marine Brigade was deployed. Currently ROKMC serves as rapid reaction force and a strategic reserve. In the time period ROKMC has two divisions each with three regiments of three marine battalions and brigades of three Marine battalions similar to their American counterparts. Like their American counterparts ROKMC Division has a Assault Amphibian Vehicle Battalion equipped with LVTP-7.

With the modernization of the infantry, ROKMC replaced their American small with locally made firearms. K2 entered South Korean service in 1985. PzF 3 entered Korean service in mid 1990. K3 LMG replaced M60.
