The Heimatschützen are the reserve, militia and home guard forces of the Bundeswehr, they first appeared in Wargame: European Escalation.
History[]
Heimatschützen represent the soldiers of the Territorialheer. These soldiers are usually motorized with one Jager Battalion in each Home Defense Command (Divisonal sized formation) equipped with M113. A normal Home Defense Command has one each of 50 series and 60 series Brigade and two or three Heimatschutz Regiments.
A 50 series Brigade has a Jager Battalions one motorized and the other heavy mounted in M113 and two Panzer battalions. The 50 series Brigade has also a Artillery Battalion and Replacement Battalion along with a Enginner and NBC companies.
A 60 series Brigade has Jager Battalions and a Panzer battalion supported by a Artillery Battalion and Engineer Company.
Two Heimatschutz Regiments has three Jager Battalions along with a 120mm mortar company.
Various Heimatschutz companies serve in Verteidigungskreiskommandos (Defense County Commands) whose mission is to defend local instillations.

In AirLand Battle, although they lack the accuracy of their regular counterparts, they still have an accurate and powerful LAW. It should be noted they also lack support weapon compared to the regular infantry of the FRG.
