LAAD Stinger A is an Anti-Aircraft Team for the United States that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon. It succeeded the LAAD Stinger from Wargame: European Escalation.

History[]

Stinger was created to replaced Redeye first as Redeye II in 1971 and got the Stinger name in 1972.

Old organization of the various formations using H-Series TO&E or the Army of Army of Excellence had either Combat Support Company or Headquarters Troop in Cavalry Squadrons and line battalions having a AAGW Section each with five Stinger or Redeye teams.

The Air Defense Battalion of the Heavy Division has a Stinger platoon in each air defense battery along with another stinger platoon in the headquarter battery to serve in maneuver units. These were mounted in M998 Humvee. There are proposals for Stinger under Armor for Stinger teams mounted in M113 so the team can be mounted in a armored personnel carrier.

Low Altitude Air Defense Battalions of the USMC were equipped with Stingers starting in 1972 replacing Redeye.
