The Leopard 2A5 is a main battle tank for West Germany that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank developed by Krauss-Maffei in the early 1970s for the West German Army. The tank first entered service in 1979 and succeeded the earlier Leopard 1 as the main battle tank of the German Army. Various versions have served in the armed forces of Germany and twelve other European countries, as well as several non-European nations. More than 3,480 Leopard 2s have been manufactured.

The A5 introduced a wedge-shaped, spaced add-on armour to the turret front and the frontal area of the sides. These armour modules defeat a hollow charge prior to reaching the base armor. Leopard 2A5 entered West German service starting in 1995.

Overview[]

Red Dragon[]

As the ultimate armoured vehicle of the Bundeswehr army and the symbol of advanced German panzers, the Leopard 2A5 proves itself as a very capable weapon platform with a solid frontal armour, an accurate and well stabilised main gun, as well as a good mobility for a heavy tank.

The Leopard 2A5, when well supported and protected from AGM airplanes can be a useful breakthrough weapon, along with its well stabilised main gun allowing it to fire on the move with reasonable accuracy. A trait shared with its far cousin, M1A2 Abrams.
