Loggim is a Prototype Main Battle Tank that appears in Wargame Red Dragon as part of the South African DLC.
History[]
In the mid 1980s South Africa needed a new generation of indigenous MBT. This project was codenamed Loggim with the hull made by Reumech Olifant Manufacturing Company and the turret and gun made by Lyttleton Engineering Works. After the end of the Border war funding was cut with only one prototype made which was the Tank Technology Demonstrator which was made to not waste the technological advancements and effort.
Strategic Overview[]
Sitting at the apex of South Africa's tank line, the Loggim is the best land brawler available to them, having by far the best armor of any unit in the SADF's arsenal. In terms of protection, however, it ranks low compared to other top-tier tanks; only the K1A1 has less armour. It is also a gas guzzler, though thankfully less so than tanks of the Abrams line, and its machine gun is relatively mediocre.
What the Loggim does bring to the table is a main gun of fantastic punching power. Though it has a middling stabilizer and slower rate of fire than other 120-millimetre pieces, its crack accuracy, armour penetration and explosive power (comparable to a decent mortar round) more than compensate for these shortcomings. Anything the Loggim hits, it will hit hard - including top-tier REDFOR superheavies. That said, it is ill-advised to expect the Loggim to tackle said superheavies one-on-one: it may be able to dish out a hefty lamping, but so too is it averse to taking the same. It nonetheless slots well into the South African paradigm of hyper-aggressive rush attacks, supporting the weaker Rooikats and Olifants by fending off high-end war machines.
In terms of fighting against it, REDFOR commanders should have little trouble using conventional anti-tank means to deal with the Loggim. That is to say: missiles, missiles and more missiles, with an extra slice of missile on top. Consider a conveniently positioned LStR-40 for dessert.
