The M551A1 (TTS) is an American Armored Recon that first appeared in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
The "TTS" stands for "Tank Thermal Sight". In 1989, the M551A1 was fitted with the AN/VSG-2B thermal sight unit, similar to the unit used on the M60A3 Patton MBT. This later became standard to all M551A1s.
During the Vietnam War and in 1970s M551 served in the Armored Cavalry Regiments replacing M48 in the tanks section before being replaced by M60 MBT. 82nd Airborne's 3-73rd Armored was the last combat user of M551A1 with 177th Armored Brigade's armored battalion using VISMOD M551 in a opposing force role,
Overview[]
It is suggested to use the 30-point M551 ACAV as the auxiliary recon for tank groups. The only obvious difference between these two models is that the TTS has additional ATGMs and higher-level Optics (Good to Very Good). The most important thing is its armor: only 2 at even Front, which means melee-focused infantry like Lì Jiàn '90 can easily destroy it with Napalm Rockets. Therefore, it is quite impractical to involve it in forest combat.
Regarding the ATGM, the MGM-51 Shillelagh is quiet common among US tanks. For example, a 40-point M60A2E2 Starship not only owns a Shillelagh with same 16 AP Power, but also has a 10 Front Armor and an autocannon. Anyway, this ATGM is used for self-defense, not really anti-tank.
After all, better Optics (of ground units) has little significance in open plain combat. What Sheridan should do there is to take out infantry and light armor with its 152mm cannon.
