Available to NATO forces, the M60A1 "Add-On Stabilization" Patton is an upgraded variant of the M60A1 Patton.
History[]
The A1 model entered production in 1962 and included a number of serious upgrades. It had a new reshaped turret offering a better laid out crew compartment, better protection and a more angled shape, with the sides getting narrower towards the main cannon.
It includes two sets of smoke grenade dischargers (one either side of the turret - the control cable ran up the side of the turret, protected by small strips of thin armor plate) and a large spotlight placed over the main gun.
The M60A1 was fitted with a stabilization system in 1972 (AKA M60A1 AOS “Add-On Stabilization”), which in power-with-stabilization-on mode allowed for a fire while moving capability. This upgrade program started in 1972.
