Main Battle Tank Prototype (Commonly referred to as Heavies and Super Heavies) is a class of Main Battle Tank that was adopted, designed or produced after 1991 or 1992, appearing as Prototypes.
Overview[]
There are 2 types of MBT prototypes, First, the Super Heavies sport the highest armor and the highest penetrating guns compared to all tanks of their arsenal and are the top of their class. However, this also comes with their high price and lack of availability, so caution is highly advised when using these tanks. These units are mostly further developments of existing tanks, for example, the M1A2 Abrams is the further development of the M1A1 Abrams.
The second protoype MBT class is the Medium Prototype. These are Prototype units that were developed in the 1970s and 1980s of existing MBTs that may equip a better gun and/or armor than their earlier counterparts, but due to issues with their projects were never adopted, like the AMX-32 or AMX-40.
