The Motostrelki '90 (Russian: Мотострелки, meaning "Motorized Riflemen") is the later era variant of the Motostrelki rifle team that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
The Motostrelki was the Soviet Union's main infantry unit during the Cold War. Although literally means "Motorized Shooter (стрелок started to refer to common infantry since the Civil War, previously an honorary title)", but the Soviet Motostrelki is a mechanized unit. Each Tank Division has a Motor Rifle Regiment mounted on BMP and Motor Rifle Battalion mounted in BMP in their tank Regiments. While each Motor Rifle Division has two Motor Rifle Regiments equipped with BTR and one Motor Rifle Regiment equipped with BMP. Artic Motor Rifle Division were mounted on MT-LB vehicles due to it MT-LB were able to go through mud and snow of the AO. Lower readiness Divisions in the core of the Soviet Union has some of the motor rifle formations mounted on trucks due to lack of equipment. The Separate Tank Regiment has a motor rifle company only. The 6th Separate Motor rifle Brigade in Berlin has three motor rifle battalions.
The RPG-7VR is a "compound word" of RPG-7 launcher and PG-7VR rocket-propelled grenade. The PG-7VR is a tandem-charged HEAT ammunition finished design in 1988 (along with RPG-7V1) and could penetrate up to 750mm RHA, or 600mm RHA behind ERA. However, due to the increase in warhead weight, the effective range of the PG-7VR is reportedly only about 200 meters.
Overview[]
Regular Infantry should not be counted on to do every job. Although the 24 AP Power of its LAW looks very strong, due to the characteristics of only fire in a stationary state, and Regular-Training combined with a 50% base Accuracy, the RPG-7VR has little chance of dealing damage in attacks. However, it can still be relied on in defense, but don't forget its Range is reduced to only 525 meters.
Since there is no difference in small arms with the original version, the main reason for choosing the '90 variant is the access to BMP-3 (also new BTRs, but Motostrelki won't need them as a positional-warfare role).
