The PT-91 Twardy is a prototype Polish Main Battle Tank that introduced in The Millionth Mile DLC for Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

Due to the success of T-55AM Merida upgrade program, in 1988 Polish General Staff wanted to locally modernize their T-72M1. Due to General Staff consideration about purchasing modern T-72 or T-80 the modernization program was slow. After the dissolution of the Soviet bloc, Polish development of a modem locally made upgrade was to fix the most visible deficiencies. The PT-91 Twardy was first started in 1991 with upgrades to the armor with ERAWA dynamic armor a ERA system , Drawa fire control system along with a stabilizer developed in Slovakia, and 12-cylinder S-12U diesel engine.

Overview[]

Sitting at the apex of the Polish tank tree, the Twardy performs similarly to its conspecifics, such as the T-72M2 Wilk - it is an excellent brawler, second only to the Czechoslovak T-72M2 Moderna, which is the best brawler available to the Eastern Bloc. Accurate and powerful, its 125mm main gun will pries open anything short of a fellow superheavy. A pair of Twardys working in concert with Wilks and backed up by SOPELs and/or Promets will break through almost any NATO defensive line: the Twardys can soak up cannon fire and even lower-end ATGMs while they and the Wilks retaliate to deadly effect.

The Twardy's only real weakness, obviously aside from what applies to high level tanks generally, are the top-tier superheavy tanks, while Twardy itself will have some trouble to fend off even a K1A1. After a fight with a Leopard 2A5 or the dreaded M1A2 Abrams, player probably will have to wash out the Twardy's crew with a hose. If confronted by these tanks in the open field, retreat: the best chance player have against them is to ambush them and hit them from the side where they're vulnerable. If encountered in a defensive line, second verse same as the first. If player have to attack them with armor, spook the defenders with artillery first so that the Twardy has the best chance to land the first dig.
