Pereh ( Hebrew: Onager ) is a prototype Israeli Missile Carrier, disguised as a tank[1], that appears in Nation Pack: Israel DLC of Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
The Pereh was developed in the 1980s in tandem with Spike NLOS ATGMS. It worked on the basis of a Magach 5 tank, being able to carry 12 Spike ATGMs. The "tank" wasn't revealed until 2011.
Original concepts were drawn up for tanks like this during the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel was in danger of being overrun by Egyptian armor. The eventual nature of the weapon system and the operational doctrine of its deployment were furthered by Israeli experience against Syrian T-72 tanks during the 1st Lebanese War.
The Pereh saw service only by Israel, being used in the following conflicts: The 2006 Lebanon War, Gaza War and even seeing use in Operation Protective Edge. In 2017, the tank was retired from IDF service, but it is unconfirmed if the IDF wants to abandon the concept or planning to use a modern tank with up-to-date looks.
Overview[]
The Pereh is an expensive yet extremely potent ATGM carrier, outranging all tanks and dealing enormous damage. It also has a stabilizer, meaning it can fire and move, but the missile must maintain line of sight to maintain its guidance. The Pereh has enough frontal armor to survive a hit from a mid-tier tank, but it will easily die to more powerful guns and thus should be kept at arm's length from threats, ensuring its long-range missiles can be used to their fullest potential.
