Peten (Cobra) is a Israeli ATGM Helicopter that appears in Nation Pack: Israel DLC of Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

AH-64 first entered Israeli service in 1990. Israel was first foreign user of the Apache.

Overview[]

As Israel's premier tank-hunting helicopter gunship, the Peten ranks among the most terrifying sights for a REDFOR commander hoping to overwhelm the enemy with a T-72 zerg rush. The killing power of its Hellfire missiles is nearly as impressive as the sheer number of them the helicopter has slung under its wings. A single Peten packs enough rocket-propelled pain to cut through four full-strength doom stacks of the strongest armour the Communist Bloc has to offer - and still has enough cannon power to shred apart any APCs that are following before retreating back to the FOB.

That said though, one mustn't get too carried away with deploying this fearsome snake. For one, commanders might attempt to compare it to the AH-64D Longbow, which bears the same number of missiles of equal range and walloping power. A keen-eyed analyst, however, might notice key differences, the most obvious of which is that the Peten doesn't wield the same omniscient radar that the Longbow does. The second most important difference is the missiles themselves: while the Longbow's are fire-and-forget, the Peten's are semi-active, so the chopper must maintain line of sight on the target at all times. That trait alone makes the Peten less than optimal for forests and urban engagements.

Otherwise, the Peten is played similarly to the REDFOR Mi-28 Havoc, with the keyest exception being its lack of unguided rockets. In other words: utilise its staying power to slay large formations of tanks while keeping it well protected against infantry, other helicopters and AA. The Tzefa E can happily deal with the first two threats, while the Ayit and/or Kurnass 2000 will delete anything that even thinks about getting a radar lock.
