Description[]
The Air Force of the Republic of Korea (ROK) is the only land-based BLUFOR air formation at the beginning of the Second Korean War.
Composition[]
The ROK Air Force includes three attack squadrons and two fighter squadrons comprised of an eclectic mix of old and new aircraft.
152nd Attack Squadron[]
With its eighteen 227 kg charges, the Phantom is a real “bombs truck” able to cause mayhem over extended areas of ground. It costs 20 points to deploy and includes:
Use it to strike grouped or entrenched enemies, knowing its lack of cannon or anti-air missiles makes it incapable of defending itself against enemy aircraft.
156th Attack Squadron[]
The F-86 Sabres are legacies of the first Korean War from forty years ago. These modernized planes can neutralize light vehicles with their rockets. It costs 20 points to deploy and includes:
- 6 x F-86F
This squadron is useful in slowing down enemy advances and disrupting their attacks on ROK positions.
216th Attack Squadron[]
The Dragonfly is a light attack aircraft first introduced during the Vietnam War. Its cheap cost and ability to deliver both high explosive and heat bombs - means its popular in air forces across the world. The squadron includes:
- 4x A-37B
Though the Dragonfly has two Fire-and-Forget missiles, its too slow to compete with fighters. Battlefield commanders should use them only when they are confident they can protect them against enemy aircraft and are able to avoid long rage SAMs.
161 Fighter Squadron[]
The modern F16C Block Squadron has experienced and motivated pilots that aim to reclaim the control of the South Korean skies. It costs 25 points to deploy and includes:
- 4 x F-16C Peace Bridge
- 2 x KF-16C
Beware: the F16C are fantastic in short range combat but will have to rely on their KF-16C comrades to deal with the fearsome MIG-29 and Su-27.
207 Fighter Squadron[]
The modern KF-SE is an older fighter aircraft designed for short range combat.
- 6 x KF-5E Jegong-Ho
The squadron can handle most North Korean’s fighters, but is out-matched once superior Chinese and Soviet units arrive.
Tips & Tricks[]
- The ROK Air Force has the same mission and impressive challenge that the ROK Land Forces and Enterprise Naval Group have - hold the initial North Korean attacks until the arrival of BLUFOR allies can tip the balance.
- The strike squadrons should be used to disrupt enemy ground formations, after spotting and neutralizing REDFOR air defence units and while using the ROK's scarce air-defense units and fighter squadrons to protect them from REDFOR aircraft.
