The Rooikat 105 is a prototype Cavalry tank that appears in Wargame Red Dragon as part of the South African DLC.
History[]
Reumech OMC created an upgrade and upgunned program for the Rooikat for the export market which was completed in 1994. The Rooikat was upgunned with a GT7 105mm anti-tank gun which can fire any NATO 105mm ammo along with modern fire control system. Due the conclusion that the Rooikat's 76mm would be effective against T-72 the primary armor threat of South Africa.
Strategic Overview[]
The Rooikat 105 is unique among tank-class vehicles in that it has wheels instead of treads - the only other vehicle that can be compared to it is the AMX-10 RC, a French recon tank. What these wheels offer is a tactical advantage that no other tank in the game possesses: incredible mobility. At 120kph, it has the fastest offroad speed of any ground vehicle in the entire game, even running rings around scout cars.
Bolstered furthermore with its reasonably powerful cannon, which can knock out most heavier machines from the side, the Rooikat offers a South African armored commander a level of strategic depth normally only accessible to Airborne decks. It can close the gap between spawn points in frighteningly short periods of time, stalking through forests and through hills to hit out at enemies (enemy artillery and freshly-spawned armor are favored delicacies for the Rooikats) from behind before beating a hasty retreat, being long gone by the time reinforcements arrive. Include a Rooikat ZA-35 in your wolf-pack to further enrage any REDFOR player who thinks to send helicopters after them.
While their guns can hit hard, it is extremely ill-advised to use Rooikats of any kind as brawlers, on account of their paper-thin armor. Even a lowly BMP-1 can lethally damage one with ease, and tank insurers outright refuse to cover T-80UM-related incidents. Be wary of aircraft also, as unlike enemy T-72s, they can keep pace with your fleeing Rooikats.
