After the loss of 18 Piper L-18C in a fire in 19 Apr. 1968, Artillery Aircraft Battery desired observation aircraft. In 14 October, 1970 12 H-500M Cayuse helicopters were ordered. Artillery Flight Battery changed its name to the Army Flight Service on 1 July, 1971 along with H-500M Cayuse entered active service. With three more helicopter bought in in 1974. These were used in reconnaissance mission along with other missions.
