The Vz.85 ShM-120 PRAM-S is a Czech mortar carrier that initially appeared in Wargame: AirLand Battle.
History[]
Design and development of what would become ShM-120 PRAM-S started in 1978, when the ČSLA decided to modernize its artillery. However, since no direct-fire automatic mortar carrier has ever been produced nor used by Czechoslovakia before, several years were spent evaluating the concept itself. Only in 1982 did the actual design work really started, with prototypes being tested from 1983 to 1985. Vz.85 ShM-120 PRAM-S was built on the modified BVP-2 hull mounting PRAM vz.85 mortar. In 1992 these were planned to serve in mortar batteries of 6 vehicles. It was then accepted into service in 1985, under the name ShM-120 vz.85 PRAM-S, and only a dozen was ever fielded before Czechoslovakia split up in 1993.
Overview[]
Based on the BVP-2 (Czechoslovakian-produced BMP-2) chassis, the ShM-120 fires volleys of 120mm mortar bombs at a high rate, while also being armed with a 12,7mm machine-gun for close protection.
