The Soviet Union (Russian: Советский Союз, tr. Sovetsky Soyuz), officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR; Russian: Сою́з Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик), was a constitutionally socialist state that existed in Eurasia between 1922 and 1991. The Soviet Union is the leading member country of the Warsaw Pact.
The Soviet Union was a single-party state ruled by the Soviet Communist Party from its foundation until 1991. A union of 15 Soviet republics, the Soviet state was structured under a highly-centralized government and economy.
Description[]
The Soviet Union mainly relies on large formations of heavy tanks, which are supported by attack helicopters and motorized heavy cannons (artillery). Though the Soviet tanks have a shorter field of vision than their NATO's homologue, they are more armored and quite faster.
In AirLand Battle and Red Dragon, the Soviet air arm is one of the few PACT air forces which can challenge NATO, especially that of the United States. Soviet aircraft prior to the 1980's are generally out-matched by their Western counterparts, however, following the introduction of the Fulcrum and Flanker series in the 1980's, the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact partners receive capabilities comparable to the latest generation NATO aircraft. In Red Dragon, the Flanker series especially is well featured in post-1985 decks, with the Su-27S and Su-27PU air superiority fighters, Su-27K anti-ship variant, and Su-27M multi-role combat aircraft. Earlier aircraft make up the less expensive options for the Soviet Union, such as the MiG-21 and -23 series.
