The Strzelcy Podhalańscy is a Polish light infantry unit that introduced in Wargame: AirLand Battle.

History[]

Polish tradition of Mountain Warfare starting in 1918 with the creation of 1st and 2nd Podhale Rifle Regiments. After the Second World War in 1956 a Independent Mountain Infantry Battalion was formed in the 5th Regiment of the Ministry of the Interior. This regiment was renamed into 5th Brigade of the Ministry of the Interior in 1960. In 1978 5th Brigade was transformed into the 5th Podhale Brigade. 5 Pułk Strzelców Podhalańskich im. gen. Andrzeja Galicy in 1989 was the heir to Podhale mountain warfare tradition.

Overview[]

Essentially a Polish Gornostrelki, the Strzelcy is an excellent unit to use for rapid deployment, best used in quickly securing control points and fortifying an army's flanks. While unlikely to threaten a superheavy tank anytime soon (unless you hit it from the side), a block of Strzelcy still poses a deadly threat to light and medium armoured vehicles. Place them on the peripheries of towns, in forests and in smaller urban areas for maximum effect.

One other key difference between Strzelcy and Gornostrelki is that the former can be transported to battle in ground vehicles unlike the latter. However, it's usually better to bundle them into helicopters anyway, as Strzelcy work best when able to deploy quickly. Utilise the vehicular versatility in your deck only when you run out of helis for your vanguard units.
