The Su-24M (NATO reporting name: FENCER-D) is a twin-engine, single-tail, two-seat, variable-geometry wing supersonic bomber used by the Soviet Air Force. The Su-24M was the result of a modernization effort which began in 1971, before the aircraft was officially accepted into Soviet arsenals. The Su-24M would feature an aerial refueling probe for extended range, new navigation system, laser designation hardware, tracking systems, and compatibility with new-generation antiradar missiles. It was first flown in 1977 and entered production in 1979.
Overview[]
AirLand Battle[]
The Su-24M is a moderately priced strike aircraft available to Soviet and PACT decks. Armed with an internal GSh-6-23 Gatling-type cannon and twelve FAB-250 bombs, the Su-24M is especially dangerous to lightly armored vehicles and infantry. Because of the number of bombs dropped, the Su-24M can cover a wide attack area, and can cause great damage to vehicle columns. The type carries poor ECM, leaving it vulnerable to long-range SAMs and AAMs, and a fighter escort should be considered as it carries no aerial missile armament.
Red Dragon[]
The Su-24M in Wargame: Red Dragon is a strike aircraft available to Soviet and REDFOR decks. It carries the same armament, but slightly improved ECM (20%). The aircraft's characteristics, strengths and weaknesses are about the same in Red Dragon as in AirLand Battle.
