The Su-27K is a Multirole Combat Aircraft available to REDFOR decks. It first appeared in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

The Sukhoi Su-27K (NATO reporting name: FLANKER-D) is a twin-engine, two-tail, single-seat naval fighter, developed in the late 1970's to address the Yak-38's range and payload shortcomings for planned Soviet CATOBAR aircraft carriers. First flown in 1987, the Su-27K was pursued instead of the Mikoyan MiG-29K for Soviet naval use. The type features a more robust undercarriage, arresting gear, larger folding wings, in-flight refueling probe and more powerful engines to deal with the heavier naval airframe. The type had it first production models first produced in 1991. With the break up of Soviet Union, Su-27K production was limited due to reduction of navy strength.

Overview[]

Red Dragon[]

The Su-27K is a less expensive Naval anti-ship aircraft option compared to the MiG-29K for PACT decks. The Su-27K features a single P-270 Moskit anti-ship missile, exceptional ECM (50%), six long-range fire-and-forget R-77 Vympel air to air missiles and a 30mm internal GSh-301 cannon. It can be effectively used as an anti-ship aircraft, or as an Air Superiority Fighter to intercept enemy strike aircraft or fighters. The Moskit is extremely accurate and highly powerful. The only major drawback to the Su-27K is that it only carries one ASM. This makes the type excellent for specific target removal of lower-end ships without CIWS, but leaves attacks against command ships relatively ineffective unless multiple Su-27K's, or Su-27K's with other aircraft are sortied as an aerial anti-ship strike package.
