The Tǎnkè shāshǒu '85 (Chinese: 坦克杀手, meaning "Tank Killer") is the later-era variant of the Chinese Tǎnkè Shāshǒu that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
It is unlikely that PLA has used, or will use, the quite offensive term "Tank Killer" as a unit title, official or otherwise. However, in modern media reports, this name can still be seen to refer to some equipment.
The "PW-80", in fact should only be called as "Type 80", since this weapon was not formly equipped by PLA, so did not receive new nomenclature as well. This weapon was originally used for the anti-tank company under the regimental artillery battalion, but it was ultimately not equipped due to weight and firepower mismatch.
Overview and tactics[]
Due to its mediocre AP Power and range, it is almost impossible for Tǎnkè shāshǒu to block a mass tank assault. Yet on the other hand, as a fire support team, their HE Power and great range compared to APCs allows them to do appreciable damage against enemy infantry along with their transport. Therefore, Tǎnkè shāshǒu should serve as the vanguard of motorized troops to seize important positions on small-scale battles (e.g 1v1).
Because the Chinese PLA doesn't have a dedicated anti-tank unit, thus under specific plans, Tǎnkè shāshǒu can only be chosen, but don't expect them to really destroy high-level tanks. For Red Dragons, players could consider North Korean Ban-tank Fagot for common ATGM.
