The T-55AMV is a main battle tank used by Soviet Union in the Wargame series. It was first introduced in Wargame: AirLand Battle.

History[]

T-55AMV is a modernization of the old T-55A developed in 1985, after Soviet ERA programme was restarted. The tank was equipped with: "Kontakt" explosive reactive armor, rubber-fabric side anti-cumulative screens, a 9K116-1 "Bastion" Guided Weapon System, a 620 hp V-55U engine, with a new fire control system "Volna" (laser rangefinder KTD-2, ballistic computer BV-62, sight TShSM-32PV and stabilizer "Cyclone" M1), heat-shielding casing on the gun barrel, 902B "Tucha" smoke grenade launchers and system of protection against napalm "Soda". Some of the vehicles were equipped with a DShKM AAMG. The undercarriage was also modernized, GMSh caterpillar tracks with increased lugs were installed. The tank was equipped with the R-173 radio station and the R-173P radio receiver.

These tanks were first used by the Soviet Naval Infantry (Morskaya Pehota) since newer tanks were not fit for their landing crafts. Each Naval Infantry Brigade has access to battalions of PT-76 and T-55.

T-55AMV in hangar.

The T-55AMV, like the T-55AM2, poses a great danger for enemy armored vehicles. The presence of GWS significantly increases the effectiveness of this tank on the battlefield, but due to the short firing range of its gun and the rather high cost of 55 points (while the differences with the previous model are not very noticeable), this unit can only be used as a support tank in actions.

If you compare this unit with its likely opponents, you will notice the following:

  • The T-55AMV has the worst firing range among its competitors in terms of cost, but it has good armor, as well as the GWS "Bastion".
  • Some modifications of the Centurion tanks (Strv. 104, 105) , Leopard (AS1 +, 1-V) and Type 74(E, G), having a low cost, will show themselves much better on the battlefield than the T-55AMV due to for the best range and firing accuracy of your gun.
  • If we compare the T-55AMV with other tanks of the USSR or OVD, then it would be better to pay attention to the series of T-62 tanks (especially modifications M, M1 and MV-1), which surpass the T-55 tanks in firepower and are not inferior in armor or in the presence of GWS.
