The T-62M is a variant of the T-62 used by the Soviet Union in the Wargame series. It was first made available in Wargame: European Escalation.

History[]

In July 25 1981, the Soviet government approved a project on the complex modernization of the T-62s. The upgrade work began with a few vehicles in 1981 and 1982, while in 1983, the upgraded T-62s are known as the T-62M. Massive conversion began at the end of 1985, based on the standard drawings approved on December 1st of that year.

Over the course of its modernization, the base model was fitted with extra mixed metallopolymer armor. The turret’s supplementary defenses consist of a series of obstructions, which were known as the BDD "Ilyich’s eyebrows" passive appliqué armor. It include an outer cambered mold of varying thickness (60-85 mm); a cavity with a set of 5 mm steel sheets positioned at a 65-degree angle and polyurethane filling in between them; and a steel rear wall that is approximately 10 mm thick. The hull’s additional defenses have a similar build – 30 mm outer plating and a set of 5 mm sheets positioned at an angle and with polyurethane filling occupying the empty space in between them. These additional armor make the T-62M considered to have the same defensive capabilities as the early T-64A and T-72 Ural, and should be proof against 105mm APDS and HEAT, many 1st generation ATGMs, as well as the M72A3 LAW and RPG-7.

The tank is fitted with RhKM tracks from the T-72 and two additional shock absorbers on the first pair of road wheels. The "Volna" FCS was improved by fitting the KTD-2 (or KTD-1) laser rangefinder in an armoured box over the main armament. There is a new TShSM-41U gunner's sight, new commander's sight, "Meteor-M1" stabiliser, BV-62 ballistic computer and 9K116-2 "Sheksna" (NATO: AT-10 Stabber) guided missile unit with 1K13-BOM sight which also allows the tank to fire 9M117 Bastion ATGMs through its gun tube. The tank was fitted with a gun thermal sleeve, new radios, the R-173 radio set instead of R-123M and a new V-55U diesel engine developing 620 hp (462 kW). The ammunition load was increased by two rounds.

However, for unknown reasons, the model appearence in-game clearly lacks all the features mentioned above, but appears to be just an ordinary T-62 with an AAMG and different camouflage. Furthermore, in Red Dragon, the model of T-62M obviously carried external fuel tanks more than the T-62M1, but the Fuel of the two is the same.
