The T-72BU (later known as the T-90) is a main battle tank for the Soviet Union that appeared in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
The T-72BU is a further development of T-72 with advanced systems from T-80U being fitted into T-72 as well as several other upgrades. The plan was to replace T-64, T-72, and T-80 in Russians service. It was first produced in 1993 as the T-90 being renamed due to political and marketing reasons, and saw first live combat in 1999. The T-90A's export variant, the T-90S, is available as a North Korean MBT.
The T-90 is Russia's frontline tank. However, the production of the T-90 has ceased due to the development of the T-14 as a part of the Armata Universal Combat System.
Overview[]
Being the epitome of the T-72 branch and one of two Soviet "top tier" tanks (the other being T-80UM), this variant has an excellent armour-22 frontal 10 sides, 5 rear, and 5 top, the highest of REDFOR tank, even more than T-80UM's as well as an upgraded main gun and ATGM which both have excellent accuracy and stabilizers, allow it to fire its main gun on the move with reasonable accuracy - a trait shared with other higher end Soviet tanks anyway.
However, being a high valued tank means that the enemy will do everything in its power to remove it from play so use the unit wisely - even with the highest armor in the game, it will succumb to determined attacks.
Differences from T-80UM:
- Costlier (175pts vs 170pts)
- Better armored (22/10/5/5 versus 20/9/3/3)
- Less stabilized main gun (50% stabs vs 55% stabs)
- Slightly less powerful and accurate ATGM with less range (22 AP, 50% accuracy, 2625 range vs 24 AP, 60% accuracy, 2800 range)
- Slower speed but increased autonomy (60km/h and 700km autonomy vs 80km/h and 450km autonomy)
As differences are quite minimal, the T-72BU is a must-have in any Soviet deck.
